Vision is to become a leading institution in our areas of expertise with the scientific value and quality of the services rendered, contribute to the development of medical science by monitoring the high-end applications on the international arena, and continue these studies in an academic environment.
Our History
The 70’s are remembered as a time period during which Turkish citizens sought for coronary artery bypass procedure options abroad henceforth Prof. Dr. Cemil Demiroğlu – my dear father and our mentor – with a group of his doctor friends who shared the same ideologies and determination, founded Haseki Cardiology Institute at Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty in 1974. Over the years, this institute provided important services to Turkey and shaped the beginning of a successful journey.
Florence Nightingale Hospital was established in 1989 and began to operate as a small and ambitious healthcare institution with 50 beds and an annual capacity of 250 open heart surgeries. By courtesy of the ever increasing support, confidence and successful work, Florence Nightingale expanded its facilities conforming to international standards and measures to 302 beds, in which more than 2000 open heart surgeries could annually be performed.
Avrupa Florence Nightingale Hospital, the second hospital of Group Florence Nightingale, became one of the major healthcare institutions of Turkey, actively serving across all medical branches including pediatrics, dental and maxillofacial surgery, gynecology and ophthalmology.
Gayrettepe Florence Nightingale Hospital and its Comprehensive Cancer Center were opened in 1997 with the participation and joint investment of American specialists. The infrastructure also allows for the ever so important joint boards and conferences with international counterparts via telemedicine.
In line with successful results and experience gained over the passing years, Florence Nightingale established Kadir Has University in collaboration with the Kadir Has Foundation in 1998. The university focused on a Faculty of Medicine, Nursing Vocational School and Departments providing degrees in healthcare. In 2006, these institutions were separated from Kadir Has University and Istanbul Bilim University, the first healthcare university in Turkey, was founded. It currently enrolls over 3000 students.
I began to work in the Group in 1993, and today, as Chairman of the Board of Directors, I am proud to be the leader of a healthcare provider with a capacity of 700 beds across four hospitals and two medical centers, including one in London. In 2006, we opened Kadıköy Florence Nightingale Hospital on Bağdat Caddesi on the Anatolian side of Istanbul and, most recently (2013), we opened the first green hospital of Turkey and the region with 219 beds. We offer modern and high quality healthcare services to both national and international patients, while continuously contributing to the Turkish healthcare sector with the education of doctors, nurses and technicians.
As a result, Group Florence Nightingale has grown in recent years and become one of the leading healthcare groups both in Turkey and the region. While doing so, we are moving forwards by placing patient experience at the core of all our services without compromising on quality, ethics or science.
We are proud that patients have placed great trust in Turkish doctors and hospitals, and consequently today, favor healthcare institutions in Turkey over treatment abroad. My physician colleagues and I strive to implement our cultural roots to continue carrying our flag forward. We intend to share our experiences and know-how on a national and international scale through partnerships and joint ventures.
