“While I was struggling to prepare a new jewelry design specific to Istanbul, Hagia Sophia came to my rescue. If you look carefully at my rings, you will see that most of these rings have a form that resembles Istanbul.
This magnificent structure that has been designed as a church has inspired the most beautiful mosques of the city for centuries following the conquest of the city. I believe that we owe it to Hagia Sophia primarily the silhouette of the historical peninsula that is embellished with minarets and domes. Fortunately, it is only ten minutes away from the door of my atelier. Every month while I go up to the marble balconies to gaze at the writings that were written maybe a thousand, maybe 1500 years ago, I feel like I am in a time machine. I hope that it will still be here 1000 years more.”
